Food Labelling Challenges

Food Labelling

Food manufacturers and food processers are facing new challenges when it comes to getting their labels right. New EU legislation has been put in place to ensure that consumers receive more accurate and comprehensive information on food content. Food labels may have to be redesigned to comply.

The good news is that you have time to meet the new labelling requirements when they come in to force on 14th December 2016.

So what do the changes involve? Key new requirements include:

• Minimum font size for mandatory information
• Clearer indication of allergens in the list of ingredients
• Allergen information to be provided for non-pre-packed foods
• Extension to the rules for country of origin labelling for meat
• Mandatory nutrition labelling
• Specific rules for the repetition of nutrition information and additional forms of expression
